Divorced and longing this time to “get it right,” I had come to understand that the essentials for relationship success were better communication, knowing your lover as well as you know yourself, and feeling emotionally safe and comfortable with each other.

Excellent goals, but how to achieve them? One afternoon, only a few weeks into my new romance, I impulsively bought a pack of index cards and started scribbling questions on them.

These all concerned personal subjects I couldn’t wait to discuss with the new man in my life - ranging from “What is your happiest memory of a holiday?” to “How have your religious or spiritual beliefs changed since you were a child?” to “Which celebrity do you find sexiest, and why?” Some of the questions were serious and others lighthearted, but all were worded in a gentle, non-threatening way that invited us to open up to one another.

That was over three years ago. My “new man” and I are now happily married, and the cards have worked so well for us that a friend suggested we share them. The result is coupleconnect, designed to benefit any two people in love, whether they are just getting to know each other or have spent years together.
