PROFOUND & LASTING GIFTS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

Flowers, cards, special presents, and dinner at a fancy restaurant are all traditional ways to show your partner how much you care on Valentine’s Day. These will all be much appreciated, to be sure, but don’t just stop with the obvious. Below I’ve listed other gifts of a more profound and lasting nature, gifts that will make your relationship special every day, not just on the 14th of February.

• Value your partner for the unique person he or she is. Remember, since time began, there’s never been another human being just like this very special person. Concentrate upon what attracted you to this unique individual in the first place, as well as upon the wonderful qualities you have discovered in him or her since then.

• Admire your partner, and do it out loud! Tell your loved one exactly what it is about him or her that you love so much. And to make your partner feel even more special, do that bragging in front of other people!

• Listen to your partner, and make it obvious that you’re doing so. Maintain eye contact and devote your full attention, whether your partner is talking about something that happened at work or simply a household chore that needs doing. When we feel listened to about the “little” things, we’re more apt to confide about the “big” things.

• Enjoy the time you spend with your partner, whether you spend a quiet night at home playing a game or reading books side by side, or going out to a club to dance and party. Every day, think of new ways to celebrate together the joys of being alive.

• Never belittle or demean your partner in any way, not even under the guise of “teasing”. Your role is to love, encourage, and support, not to tear down.

• Thank your partner for even the smallest things he or she does to make your life better or easier, and then think of ways that you can return the favor. Everybody likes to feel appreciated.

• Indulge your partner often with loving gestures. Bring tea or coffee to your loved one in bed; give foot rubs while you’re watching television; do your partner’s least favorite chore so that he or she won’t have to.

• Nourish your partner’s soul and spirit by allowing him or her to be the truest, most authentic person possible. When we allow our partners to be fully themselves, we experience them at their very best, and they encourage us to be our best, too.

• Evolve through your own life experiences into the kind of partner you yourself would most like to live with.

BEST WISHES FOR A VALENTINE’S DAY FILLED WITH LOVE AND JOY!
