HOW TO HAVE A HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY EVEN IF YOU’RE SINGLE

For people who aren’t currently involved in a relationship, Valentine’s Day can be a miserable experience. All those hearts, flowers, and cutesy little cupids everywhere are enough to make you sick! They just intensify how alone you feel, how isolated you seem to be from the rest of the human race, and it’s easy to imagine that everyone else in the whole world but you has someone special to share the day with.

You could choose just to stuff yourself with chocolates, but that might remind you that you had to buy them for yourself on this day when certainly EVERYBODY ELSE got them as a Valentine’s Day present! So stop wallowing and do something positive (and put down that box of chocolates!). Here are some tips for making Valentine’s Day, as well as the single life in general, a lot more bearable and maybe even FUN!

  • Value yourself for the unique and wonderful human being you are, whether you have a partner or not. Don’t forget how special you are — in all the world, since time began, there has never been and never will be another YOU!

  • Associate as much as possible with the kind of people who make you feel joyful. Spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself, who accept you just as you are without trying to change you or to fix you up with their weird cousin Ernie just because he’s single, too.

  • Learn more about yourself. Figure out who you really are, and why you were put on this earth at this particular time. Being single provides a perfect opportunity to focus upon unresolved issues from your past, to sort them out, and then to grow and evolve into a happier, more fulfilled individual.

  • Evaluate and analyze past relationships you have had, and try to learn from them. Figure out why you chose the partners you did, and why you were attracted to them. If they weren’t satisfactory partners, ask yourself how next time you might make sure you’re choosing a better one. And how might you also be a better partner yourself in a future relationship?

  • Nourish yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Take care of yourself and be your own best friend. Give yourself a special treat; do something that you love and enjoy! Make time to experience the things you love the most. This is the way you should treat yourself whether you have a partner or not.

  • Trust yourself to know what you want from life and then go out and get it. Don’t wait for a partner to do this for you — whether we’re single or in partnerships, we are all responsible for creating our own lives from the inside out.

  • Inspire others by sharing aspects of your own emotional and spiritual journey with them. Don’t be afraid to share either strengths or weaknesses with those you trust. We all learn so much from one another — everyone is someone else’s teacher for lessons about life!

  • Never give up on your goals, even when you’re feeling weak or overwhelmed. Rest for awhile, find someone to talk to or something inspirational to read. Realize that you often learn more from bad experiences than from good ones, so just hang in there when things get tough. They WILL eventually get better.

  • Embrace life in all its diversity. See, hear, feel, smell, and taste what is offered to you in each moment. Think of the world as your personal garden of delights, and enjoy! (But try not to eat that whole box of chocolates in one sitting!)

BEST WISHES FOR A VALENTINE’S DAY FILLED WITH LOVE AND JOY!
